A Pilgrim's Doubt

Moon-dripped reflections
Fallen from favor
The weight on these shoulders
Still gazing at navels
Plucking at strings
In ivory chambers, I remember
Stillness between heart beats
And silence deepening
Fossilized I speak your name
I try these melodies and combinations
But I'm just jumping at shadows
You just happen to be the noisiest ghost
In parts I cannot travel
Weary before I even hit the road
In thoughts I unravel
Perhaps this is bigger than both of us
Screening out our shadows
To read between the lines
Torchlight caught on canvas
Puppeteering my mind
There is a place out on the waves
Where for a moment I almost let myself
Believe this was a living burning thing
And a night for you and I
Catastrophic distortion
Staring at the sun
Through this kaleidoscopic lens
Studying the motion
Of all these gods and goddesses
I have no doubt of only one
Faithful in ways I now forget
With rituals ineffectual and feckless
What deeds do your deaf ears regret?
I am left at the horizon's edge
Swallowed by the scale of this
Infinitesimal
A falling star still shooting fire
Failing up but never found out
Wondering why I kept the faith
When I have none in myself
This serene beauty catches
Haunting like a lingering tune
In wind, and air and quiet memory
It whispers out upon the dunes
How could I release this?
When all the sky is your domain?
I've seen the colors cast like witchcraft
The moon and all the stars remain
A pilgrimage I'd gladly go through
Time and again I find it here
Buried in the signs and wonders
In the observations of these gears
Machines you built to carry you skyward
Elysian, you knew my name
Please carry me into that fire
Oh Goddess, please devour me
Do not forsake this observation
The echoes out there on the lake
The sea herself ferrying beauty
Reminding me of sacred things
Do not forget this invocation
The sacrifices I would make
With devotion I refuse regretting
Revitalized I speak your name
