It can be hard to find your identity. Where does one person begin and another person end? When things fall apart how can you be sure that there is still something left of you to give?
Giving up is tempting, and so is the chaos of self-destruction, and so is escape. But in the end you must find what you already possess has worth and when the pain stops perhaps you can start over and find someone to share that ever-expanding Universe with.
Disavowed
I burned every acre
Tore up every tree
Replaced every heartbeat
That used to bear your name
In the echoes of that chaos
Was a passion unresolved
Something I had buried there
Not ready to dissolve
Disavowed under the star-shine
Waiting to join the waking the world
But denied that vital entry
That one last step I've never known
The roots go deep beneath me
Tangled up and incomplete
Casting glances on the mountains
Wondering if I might retreat
To the solitude of moonlight
The cresting waves and cries of wolves
To see the oceans churning
In the valleys out beyond
I thought I was still nothing
Believed it all burned into ash
But there is some worth to see here
There has to be, there must
Some gold in hidden hills
Or diamonds down below
Some smile I can give
Some love I have to show
An ever expanding Universe
That you chose to let go
The strength I now must find within
To turn around and go
How I long for escape
This open field is my heart
Naked for the sky
Crying out for love
How I long for release
Running hard toward distant shores
With a hand firmly in mine
And a fire that can burn forevermore
