Mealy-mouthed sub-optimal consumer
Filled with a black bile tar heart
Feathers fringed tinged dark with fear
Red and Green with envy
All stops and starts
Guttural ululations cut short
Unsure of any holy days but
Waiting for the celebrations all the same
A meaty hunger seeking heat
Sinking further into a cold war
With self-aggrandized quantities of self-hate
A life spent light without engine checking
Teeth hide a hidden jaw beneath
Wishing for ducts to duck in
Aground to be subsumed by
Self-absence to succumb to
Shameful cyclical display lights
Heads up but eyes chasing dopamine
Some hits that point in all directions
Unhealthy time spent saving screens
Suspending bottles up in treetops
Or down in darkened hollowed holes
Hoping you'd send for help yourself
So that I could shower you in love
For in the mirror I've built a door
A residence for useless eaters
Where my old versions just get older
And farther and farther away from you
Never good at building bricks
But dying to let go all the same
Never thought I'd have a future
So I never learned to fucking plan
Crass series of unserious disasters
Eating every breadcrumb trailed
Seeking guidance toward your doorstep
Open heart and empty pail
A castle built and now withstanding
Us reaching rest still hand in hand
Patching flaws in walls like mad
I'll bring the bucket, you the sand
